File Upload Issues

If a file will not attach in Cognivo Chat, or is rejected after you add it, the cause is usually the file size, its type, or a brief connection problem. The steps below cover the most common cases.

The File Is Too Large​

File size limits vary depending on the model you have selected. A file that is rejected right after you add it has most likely gone over the limit for the active model.

What to do:

  1. Try selecting a different model, then attach the file again - some models allow larger files.
  2. Reduce the file size. Compress an image, export a smaller PDF, or split a large document into parts.
  3. Attach fewer files at once if you added several together.

The File Type Is Not Accepted​

The same file type can be accepted by one model and rejected by another, because supported formats are set per model. If a file that should work is refused, the active model may not accept that category of file.

What to do:

  1. Confirm the format is supported. See Supported File Types for the full list.
  2. Switch to a model that accepts that category of file, then try again.
  3. If a format is unusual, save the content to a widely supported format, such as PDF or plain text, and upload that.

No Attachment Option Appears​

If there is no paperclip icon in the message bar and dragging a file does nothing, the model you are using does not support attachments.

What to do: Switch to a model that supports file uploads using the model selector, then attach your file.

The Upload Stalls or Fails​

A file that starts uploading but never finishes usually points to a connection problem.

What to do:

  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. Refresh the page and attach the file again.
  3. Retry the upload. A temporary glitch often clears on a second attempt.
  4. Try a different browser or device if it keeps failing.

Notes​

  • If a file is rejected, the rest of your message is not affected - you can remove the file and send your text on its own.
  • Very large images, audio, or video are the most common cause of size rejections. A smaller version usually uploads without trouble.
