Drag & Drop

Drag and drop is the fastest way to attach a file in Cognivo Chat. Instead of opening a file picker, you drag a file straight from your computer and drop it onto the conversation.

How to Drop a File

  1. Open the folder on your computer that contains the file you want to attach.
  2. Click and hold the file, then drag it over the Cognivo Chat page.
  3. Release the file to drop it. The whole conversation page is a valid drop area, not just the message box.

You can drag more than one file at a time. Up to 10 files can be attached to a single message.

What Happens After You Drop

Once you release the file, it is attached to your next message:

  • Images appear inline in the message you are composing.
  • Documents and other files appear as named file cards above the message box.

If a file can be handled in more than one way, a short dialog asks how you want it processed. Pick the option that fits what you want to do and continue. When you are ready, type your message and send it. The AI reads the attached file alongside your text.

If Drag & Drop Does Not Work

Drag and drop depends on the model currently selected supporting file attachments. If dropping a file has no effect, use the attachment button (the paperclip icon) in the message bar instead. If the paperclip icon is not shown, the active model does not accept attachments - switch to a model that does using the model selector.

Notes

  • The file must come from your own computer. Dragging a link or an image from another web page may not attach it.
  • If a file is rejected after you drop it, the most common cause is that it exceeds the size limit for the active model. See File Upload Issues for what to try.
