Gifting credits and vouchers
What this is
The Gifts page lets you send Cognivo credits, or one of your reward vouchers, to another Cognivo user. You send to that person's Cognivo ID, and nothing leaves your balance until you confirm the exact amount.
When to use it
Use it when someone you trade with has run out of credits and wants to run a check now. Use it to thank a person who shared a good find. Use it to pass a spare free check to a friend instead of letting it expire.
Where to find it
In the dApp sidebar, open the Account group and select Gifts. The page heading reads Gifts, with the line "Send credits and vouchers to other Cognivo users." You can also reach it from the Rewards page using the Send credits button. If you are signed out, the page shows Sign in to send gifts and a Continue from Cognivo Chat button.
You need the recipient's Cognivo ID before you start. It looks like COGNI-XXXX-XXXX, and each person finds their own in Settings, under Cognivo ID, with a copy button next to it. The form accepts a Cognivo ID only, so ask the recipient for theirs. If Cognivo has not issued yours yet, Settings shows "Not available yet."
Sending credits
- Enter the person's Cognivo ID in the Recipient Cognivo ID field, using the COGNI-XXXX-XXXX pattern shown in the box.
- Type how many credits you want to send in the Amount (credits) field, and add a short Note if you want the recipient to see one.
- Select Review gift. You confirm the exact amount before anything is charged.
The amount must be a whole number above zero. The note is optional and short, and the recipient sees it on the gift.
After you select Review gift, a Confirm gift box appears. It repeats the amount and the recipient ID, and shows Your balance. The send button carries the amount on it, for example Send 100. Select it to complete the gift, or select Cancel to close the box. Cancelling sends nothing and charges nothing.
What you get back
If the gift goes through, Cognivo shows a Credits sent message and your balance updates. The gift then appears in Gift history as Sent.
Some results are not a completed gift, and each one says why:
- "No Cognivo user found with that ID. Check the ID and try again." The ID does not match an account. It does not mean the person has no account, only that this ID did not resolve.
- "You cannot send credits to yourself."
- "Not enough credits. Top up in Cognivo Chat." The confirm box stays open and the send button is disabled.
- Your balance reading "Not available right now" means Cognivo could not read your balance at that moment. It does not mean your balance is zero.
- "Credit gifting is not enabled yet." or "Voucher gifting is not enabled yet." means the feature is not switched on for your account yet. Nothing is sent and nothing is charged.
Gifting a voucher
A voucher is a free check you earned, shown on the Rewards page as Your free checks. You can pass one to another user instead of using it yourself.
Enter the recipient's Cognivo ID and select Review voucher gift. The Confirm voucher gift box tells you how many vouchers you have available to gift. If you have none, it says "You have no vouchers available to gift." and the button stays disabled. Vouchers apply to eligible dApp checks only, cannot be exchanged for credits or cash, and may expire.
Gift history
Gift history sits below the two forms, with All, Sent and Received filters that carry a count each. Every row shows the credit amount or the word Voucher, whether it was sent or received, the other person's Cognivo ID, your note, a status such as Completed or Pending, and how long ago it happened. Long lists are paged.
An empty No gifts yet. panel means no gift has been recorded on this account. If a row reads "Amount not recorded", Cognivo has the gift but not its credit amount, which is not the same as a zero credit gift. A counterparty shown as "unknown" means the other account could not be resolved for display.
Cost and limits
Sending a gift costs only the credits you choose to send. There is no extra fee, gifting a voucher costs no credits, and reading your gift history is free. Cognivo quotes the exact amount first and moves credits only after you confirm, so cancelling never costs anything.
Two limits matter before you send. Gifts cannot be reversed once sent, for credits and for vouchers, so check the ID character by character. And the recipient must already have a Cognivo account, because there is no way to gift to an email address or a wallet.
Every account also gets 5 free credits each day, which reset at midnight UTC.
