What is MCP?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol — an open standard for connecting AI models to external tools and data sources.
MCP in Cognivo Chat
Cognivo Chat includes built-in blockchain analysis tools through the $COGNI Gateway. MCP extends this further by allowing the AI to interact with additional services beyond the built-in tools.
MCP is a power user feature. Standard blockchain research and fund flow analysis does not require MCP — the built-in tools cover the majority of use cases.
How MCP Servers Work
Each MCP server is a separately hosted service that defines a set of tools the AI can call. When an MCP server is connected, those tools become available to the AI during your conversations.
The side panel lists the MCP servers available in your session, along with their current connection status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connecting | The server is establishing a connection |
| Connected | The server is ready and its tools are available |
| Disconnected | The server is not currently active |
| Error | The server could not be reached or encountered a problem |
