Full Glossary (A-Z)

Definitions of blockchain and crypto terms used in Cognivo Chat and Wallet Tracer.

B

Bridge

A protocol that transfers tokens from one blockchain to another (e.g., Ethereum to Arbitrum). A blockchain bridge enables moving cryptocurrency between different networks. In Wallet Tracer, bridge addresses are identified as terminal nodes because once funds cross to another chain, they can no longer be traced on Ethereum.

Bubble Map

An interactive graph showing how cryptocurrency moved between wallet addresses. Each circle represents a wallet, and arrows show transactions. Colors indicate whether an address is a regular wallet, exchange, bridge, or mixer. The Bubble Map is the primary visualization in Wallet Tracer.

Bidirectional Trace

Follows funds in both directions from a starting address for the most complete picture. Combines both outgoing and incoming traces into a single view.

C

CEX (Centralized Exchange)

A cryptocurrency trading platform operated by a company, such as Coinbase, Binance, or Kraken. In Wallet Tracer, CEX addresses appear as terminal nodes because deposited funds are commingled with other users' funds.

$COGNI Gateway

Cognivo's built-in blockchain analysis tools, available directly in Cognivo Chat. These tools let you look up transactions, check wallet activity, analyze smart contracts, view ERC-20 transfers, and trace fund flows — all by asking in natural language. Results link directly to Wallet Tracer for interactive visualization.

D

DEX (Decentralized Exchange)

A trading platform built on blockchain smart contracts, allowing direct wallet-to-wallet swaps without a central authority. Popular DEXes include Uniswap, SushiSwap, and 1inch.

E

Edge

A line connecting two nodes on the Bubble Map, representing fund flow between two addresses. Clicking an edge shows the transaction hash, value, token, and direction.

EOA (Externally Owned Account)

A standard Ethereum wallet address controlled by whoever holds its private key, as opposed to a smart contract.

F

Flow Path Analysis

The Flow Paths tab in Wallet Tracer computes the most significant fund flow routes: top paths by value, longest path, categorization of terminal addresses by type, and top counterparties.

H

Hop

A single transfer step in a fund flow trace. A "5-hop trace" follows up to 5 consecutive transfers. The free tier allows up to 5 hops and 20 addresses per trace.

I

Incoming Trace

Traces funds backward to find all sources that sent to the starting address. Answers "Where did the money come from?"

J

Journey View

The Journey tab in Wallet Tracer presents every transaction as a chronological, step-by-step list showing sender, receiver, amount, and token for each step.

M

MCP (Model Context Protocol)

An open standard that enables AI models to interact with external tools and data sources. In Cognivo Chat, you can configure MCP servers for additional capabilities.

Memories

Persistent information the AI saves and uses across all your future conversations. Memories help the AI provide more personalized responses without repeating background information.

Mixer

A privacy tool that pools funds from many users to obscure the connection between senders and receivers. Examples include Tornado Cash and Railgun. In Wallet Tracer, mixer addresses trigger alerts and are flagged as terminals.

Multi-Hop Tracing

Wallet Tracer's ability to automatically follow funds across multiple consecutive transfers, building a complete picture of fund flows across the network.

N

Node

A circle on the Bubble Map representing one Ethereum address. Nodes are color-coded by type: regular wallets, exchanges, DEX routers, bridges, and mixers.

O

Outgoing Trace

Traces funds forward from the starting address to all destinations. Answers "Where did the money go?"

P

Presets

Saved AI configurations (model, system prompt, temperature) that you can load with one click in Cognivo Chat.

R

Router Address

A DEX smart contract (like Uniswap V3 Router) that processes swaps for many users. Not a personal wallet — router addresses are shared infrastructure.

S

SIWE (Sign-In with Ethereum)

An authentication method that lets you log into Cognivo using your Ethereum wallet instead of a password. You sign a message to prove wallet ownership.

Smart Contract

Code stored on Ethereum that executes automatically when triggered by transactions. Smart contracts power DEXes, bridges, mixers, and many other blockchain applications.

T

Terminal

An address where Wallet Tracer stopped following funds. Reasons include: the address is a known exchange, mixer, bridge, the trace depth limit was reached, or the address has no relevant transactions.

Terminal Reasons

The specific reason why a trace stopped at each terminal address: CEX_DETECTED, MIXER_DETECTED, BRIDGE_DETECTED, MAX_DEPTH, NO_TRANSACTIONS, or TIMEOUT.

Trace Lifespan

The Lifespan tab shows the timeline of a trace's processing: Created, Started, and Completed, with elapsed time.
